The stories of Chris McCandless and Evan Ratliff are very similar as both men wanted to vanish from the social eye for an extended period of time. This task for a guy like Chris who told no one was far easier then it was for Evan who announced it to the entire country. While Chris had to dodge a small portion of people who were looking for him Evan had anyone who saw his announcement feaverishly searching for him and the appealing cash prize.

Change

Shedding my identity would be no easy task. I would first have to destroy my passport, license, and my birth certificate. Then I would have to erase my facebook and everything else I have done online. Then I would create new papers for me and make up a new name and birthday. Then I would be a new man with a new identitiy.

A Good Deal

Several days ago Donald Tyler bought a small chandelier at an old antique shop downtown. He needed some extra light for his apartment and it seemed like a perfect fit. However when he woke up the next morning the chandelier had grown in size! Don was stunned as he gazed upon the now noticeably larger light fixture that was hanging from his ceiling. That night Don decided to stay up and see what exactly was happening. He waited and waited until 3:26 in the morning when the chandelier again grew in size. Donald was so surprised he rubbed his eyes to make sure he wasn’t dreaming. However what he was seeing was real, the chandelier was literally expanding. Lights were popping out of the ceiling like pimples on a teenager and all Don could do was stare in disbelief. Days later his entire wall was covered with this obscure antique. Don’s apartment now was brighter then the sun on a hot summer day, needless to say Don got more then he bargained for.

The style of writing in the novel was special, as I have never read a book exactly like The Great Gatsby. I think the masterpiece comes from the intertwining of all the characters to create a story out of regular people’s normal lives. That’s all Gatsby really is, a story about nothing, but Fitzgerald manages to keep it interesting and relevant and that’s why The Great Gatsby is a masterpiece.

Gatsby

My impression of Gatsby so far is that he is a shy man who tends to have a difficult time interacting with others. Sure he has all the parties but how many people does he actually talk to at the parties. If he was more sociable there wouldn't be so many nasty rumors written about him. An example of a bad rumor about him is "Well, they say he's a nephew or cousin of Kaiser Wilhem's...I'm scared of him. I'd hate to have him get anything on me."(Page 32) I also think he has a head on his shoulders and thinks before he blurts out what is on his mind. On page 48 this is evident when the narrator says "He smiled understandingly--picking his words with care." Which proves my previously talked about statement. Most of all I don't believe that all these years alone have particularly bothered him as he is a man who likes to keep to himself. Early on this is established when the narrator says ""...for he gave a sudden intimation that he was content to be alone...he was trembling." (pg. 21) Which gave me a clue that he may not be that angry about living by himself in a big mansion, that doesn't mean hes not happy to see Daisy again its just that he doesn't mind spending some time alone.

When I grow up I don't necessary think I will make a worldly impact (i.e. Obama) but I hope to make an impact in the community that I live in. This would include coaching sports teams, helping out around town, and doing the small things like recycling. Obviously if I had the chance to make a greater impact I would but I dont see myself calling Washington home anytime soon.

10 Years!!!!

Where do I see myself ten years down the line? I hope to have graduated college after having a great four years and to have started my career. I also want to live in either New England or some place warm like Florida. I want to become a person who is respected and who has a stable place in society. This includes a solid job and a house to retire to at the end of the day. I want to be able to travel and i want to be happy with my career and my job at the moment. Most of all I just hope I'm content with my life because at the end of the day money doesn't mean anything if you aren't happy.

Lasky

For the most part I'd like to think I'm a down to earth easy going guy. I grew up in New Hampshire where i lived for the first twelve years of my life. Then my life abruptly changed when my dad got a new job in Pennsylvania. I enjoy sports and my favorite teams are the Patriots, Celtics, and Phillies. When I grow up I hope to be a sports journalist because it combines my two favorite things (writing and sports) and would allow me to travel the country. I love to travel and have been fortunate enough to travel to several interesting and beautiful countries. Someday I hope to travel to every continent and experiance the majority of the countries in Europe. Next year I want to go to Colorado for college because it's a beautiful state that has a lot to offer.
